
John Whinfield (he/him)
John Whinfield is a Canberra-based actor, writer, and professional voiceover artist. John has performed a wide range of parts over the years; some highlights include Edward Ferrars in Sense & Sensibility (Canberra REP, 2022), Officer Krupke in West Side Story (Dramatic Productions, 2023), Henry in Next to Normal (Queanbeyan Players, 2024), Johnny in American Idiot (Queanbeyan Players, 2024), Duke Mahoney in Nice Work If You Can Get It (Queanbeyan Players, 2024), and Jeremy Warrender in Spider’s Web (Canberra REP, 2025). For his performance as Willard in Queanbeyan Players’ Footloose! (2023), John received the Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He will be making his ACT Hub debut in 2025 as Max in Lend Me A Tenor.
In the world of voiceover, John specialises in voices for character roles in animation and video games. He is perhaps best known for his performances as both Mud and Jack in Glitch Productions’ hit indie animated series, The Gaslight District. Further animation credits include Dog in Adam Musa Othman’s award-winning CalArts short film, Horned Cook, Gola; the Instructor in Clownsaint‘s Ersatz series; and Gim Bink in the upcoming sci-fi animated series, Off World Retrievers. In gaming, John has performed as Swansea in promotional material for the hit indie psychological horror game Mouthwashing, Al Sweetman and others in New Blood Interactive’s first-person shooter Fallen Aces, and Charlie in the metroidvania Cookie Cutter: Overkill Edition. Further titles include both Moonlight Maelstrom and Magenta Horizon – Neverending Harvest (Hellfire Railway Interactive), Hordes of Hunger (HyperStrange), and Trials of Cascadia (Lunesis Studios).
